Our Firefighters and Medical First Responders are backed up by an active auxiliary. These dedicated volunteers operate our hall, conduct fundraising efforts, and provide support to the firefighters during long operations. This support is essential to the level of service we provide, and we cannot say enough good things about all that our Auxiliary members do. They are a vital part of our Fire Department!
The medical emergencies to which our MFRs respond make up the bulk of our calls every year. Being in a rural area often means a substantial wait time for an ambulance - this gap is closed by the medical response capability maintained by rural fire departments. We arrive on the scene first, provide advanced first-aid care, and often prepare the patient for transport by the EHSNS paramedics. This helps to cut waiting times at the emergency scene, as well as the overall time required to get patients to a hospital. We also assist in retrieving patients from less accessible areas such as woodland.
